About Us

Vacations That Matter began in 2002 as an initiative of the Victoria Community Development Corporation (VCDC) to bring Volunteer Vacationers to the province.

The VCDC was aware of the large number of projects in the province which could not be completed due to insufficient workers and insufficient funding. Volunteer Vacations seemed an ideal solution. The vacationers would be able to complete work which otherwise would not be finished, while at the same time experiencing the hospitality and beauty of Newfoundland and Labrador, passing information about their experiences to others once they returned home.

The mission of Vacations That Matter is:

  • to obtain volunteers from outside the province to complete work which would otherwise not be finished and
  • to introduce as many vacationers as possible to the Newfoundland and Labrador experience, so that they will tell others about our province.

We create opportunities by building partnerships with private and public groups and agencies within the province. Our activities are based on in-depth research and strategic planning into which activities will have:

  • the greatest interest and benefit to Volunteer Vacations and
  • the maximum benefit to the community without interfering with the local job market.
