History
This is the history of The Victoria Community Development Corporation
from its humble beginning to the successful organizationof today.
The Victoria Community Development Corporation (VCDC) began in 1993
as a pilot project in the Community Economical Development funded by Human
Resources Development Canada (HRDC), Harbour Grace. It Is now a non-profit
organization whose mandate is to help local people work to improve the
economic and social conditions of all residents of Victoria and the Trinty
Conception Region. Members of VCDC believe that when local residents have
direct input into development activities in their community, project ownership
and success at the grass roots level are assured.
The Strategic planning process of VCDC began with an examation of information
gathered through a "Needs Assessment" involving all residents
of Victoria over sixteen years of age. The Resulting Community Report
was a summary of what residents felt were the strengths, weaknesses, and
oppurtunities in their community. The VCDC has used this information to
direct their efforts into ongoing activities up to the present.
VCDC has focused on creating economic development opportunities for residents
of Victoria and Trinity Conception by building partnerships with groups
inside and outside the community.
VCDC has been involved in programs dealing with Education, Environmental
Protection, Agriculture, Youth of the area, Youth Service of Canada (YSC)
and tourist attractions.
