  • ACW - ACWACWThe 'Anglican Church Women' provides our women with opportunities for work and fellowship. They host several sales during the year which includes a meal, 'a bake table' and 'a craft table.' The women enjoy times of fellowship working together on various projects. (Pictures show ACW from St. John, the Evangelist -- left- "Bake Sale in Mall" and right- "Sewing for Fall Sale")
  • Altar Guild - This group of women care for and prepare the Altar for Holy Communion. Their work includes changing the cloths, cleaning the sacred vessels and keeping the sanctuary in good order.
  • Bible Study - On Thursday mornings we have a Bible Study group meeting in the rectory at 10:00 a.m. We have just completed the Gospel of Luke (after two years) and are now beginning the Acts of the Apostles.
  • Choir- Leading the congregation in singing is a commendable task and we welcome people of all ages who have an interest in singing with our choirs.
  • Couriers - To save on postage and give people an opportunity to interact with other parishioners we have a courier system to deliver information from time to time.
  • C.L.B.CLB There are more than ten leaders in this organization that includes boys and girls. We meet weekly to do drill, badge work and sports. For the last two year our company has received the highest rankings, offering us the opportunity to wear the red lanyard. (Pictue at right -- CLB Band participating in the "Lift High the Cross" procession on Coley's Point.)
  • Eucharistic Ministers- Our diocese licenses persons to assist the priest administer at the service of Holy Communion.
  • Greeters - This valuable ministry of welcoming those who come to church on Sunday also provides opportunity to exchange information and present a service-book, bulletin, etc.
  • Helping Hand - This is our clothing and food bank that we manage in partnership with many other churches in our area. We are one of the founding partners and one of its biggest supporters. Volunteers help the manager in the store where we sell second hand clothes and offer grocery hampers to those in need. This building is located in Bay Roberts.
  • J. A. / Y. G. A. JA/YGA meeting SeniorsThis girl's group meets weekly at the James Norman Hall and they enjoy learning about their church and community. They also visit seniors during Christmas with a basket. (Picture at right -- JA/ JGA members visiting seniors in a Senior Citizens' Home in Shearstown.)
  • Layreaders - The bishop licenses these persons to 'read' the offices publicly under the direction of the priest. They usually do so when the priest is out of the parish.
  • Little HelpersVolunteers- We have a person in each congregation who helps host a party for young people, under five years of age, once a year. They also send each child a birthday greeting for five years. (Picture at right - Young children standing in front of the "Ascension" Window in St. Matthew's Church, during their participation in Sunday morning service.)
  • Newsletter - The Anchor has become an excellent means of communication for us in the Parish because it contains a wide variety of articles. Of particular interest to many is 'Pages from the Past'.
  • Office Volunteers - VolunteersDuring busy weeks we have a number of people who assist the secretary at the office with folding, posting and other important work. (Picture at right -- Volunteers assembling the Anchor.)
  • Prayer Chain - Several years ago we established a 'prayer chain'. We believe that intercession is a very important ministry that we offer for each other especially those in need. The links of this chain offer intercessions for those in need everyday.
  • Readers - Many of our parishioners read the appointed lessons each Sunday.
  • Servers' Guild - We have servers at all our services. These young people enjoy assisting at the altar and provide a very valuable service to the priest.
  • Sidespersons - These people are often greeters and double as stewards to receive the collection at each service.
  • Sunday Schools - Sunday SchoolWe encourage young families to enroll their children in our Sunday School Programme.

In St. Matthew's we meet in the mornings at the church and during church services when we have a service at that time. (Picture at left -- St. Matthew's Sunday School -- Angels preparing for their role in the Christmas pagent for Christmas 2000.)

Sunday SchoolIn St. John we meet in the afternoons at 2:00 p.m. in the hall. We have two very vibrant Sunday Schools. (Picture at right-- St. John the Evangelist Sunday School Christmas pagent for Christmas 2000.)

  • Surf 'n Song - For the past two years we have prepared a 'parish dinner' with entertainment with the success encouraging us to make the evening an annual event in mid-September. A large number of people are involved with organizing the dinner and the entertainment making it an important time of fellowship for the parish.
  • Visitation Committee - A couple of years ago we established a committee of lay people who visit shut-ins and those in hospital.
